Unsaturated flow effects on solute transport in porous media

چکیده

A major contaminant transport process in soils is hydrodynamic dispersion by affecting the spreading and arrival of surface-applied pollutants at underlying groundwater reservoirs. When a soil unsaturated, very much affected water saturation. Centimeter- decimeter-scale column experiments were carried out to explore effects fluid saturation particle size on unsaturated solute dispersivity. Measured in-situ breakthrough curves analyzed terms both classical advection–dispersion dual-porosity (mobile-immobile) type equations. clear non-monotonic relationship was found between dispersivity The extent non-monotonicity more pronounced for relatively coarse-textured sand compared finer sand. This finding has been reported rarely before; it explains some inconsistencies saturation-dispersivity relationships literature.

Solute transport during cyclic flow in saturated porous media

We consider materials with large pores interconnected by thin long channels saturated with an incompressible fluid. In the absence of fluid flow, solute transport in the porous network is diffusion controlled, however, solute transport can be enhanced when the porous network is subjected to a cyclic flow with zero time average velocity. We develop a mathematical model to analyze this physical p...

Modelling flow and solute transport in fractured porous media

A BEM numerical model is presented for the flow and solute transport in fractured porous media, which is based on the dual reciprocity method multi domain scheme (DRM-MD). The model solves the 3D flow equation based on the Darcy law in the coupled system of porous media, fracture network and fracture intersections. Unlike the discrete fracture models, which for simplicity use Fick's law in the ...

Solute Transport in Heterogeneous Porous Media

Solute mass transport in porous media is strongly correlated with pore fluid flow. The analysis of solute transport is an effective means for studying medium heterogeneities. In this study, we discuss the effects of heterogeneity on the tracer transport. Assuming steady fluid flow, we have simulated tracer transport in various permeability heterogeneities. The results show that the tracer distr...

Singular Perturbation Techniques for the Solute Transport Equation in Unsaturated Porous Media

In this paper we formulate a system of partial diierential equations that models the contamination of groundwater due to migration of dissolved contaminants through unsaturated to saturated zone. A closed form solution using singular perturbation techniques for the water ow and solute transport equations in the unsaturated zone is given. Indeed, the solution can be used as a tools to verify the...

Solute Transport in Porous Media. Media with Capillaries as Voids

We study solute transport in porous media with periodic microstructures consisting of interconnected thin channels. We discuss a local physical mechanism that occurs at the intersections of channels and promotes mixing of the solute with the solvent (i.e., the host liquid). We identify the parameter regime, where this mechanism is the dominant cause of dispersion, and obtain the effective or ma...
